SEATON SANDS HARTLEPOOL. 8, MAY, 2023.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog reached the beach at 6-10 a m.
A White Vauxhall Astra blasted around the car park noisily.
Some beach regulars were already out on the beach.

They headed down the access ramp, chatting to the 7 a.m. club as they did so.

It was very mild.
Almost muggy.

The tide was well in
There was not a hint of a breeze.

They headed south on the water's edge.
A one man, two dogs 7 a m. Club led the way.
The sea wasn't blood but today it seemed to be thicker than water.

It was calmer than it looked.
Waves only breaking as a last resort.
A seaside resort.

A Very Very Dry Retriever showed up, alongside them.
He wanted a ball.
Any ball.
He owner arrived with a ball and shared "Morning."
The ball was launched.
The keen dog jumped into the sea.
Moments later the transformation was complete.
Out stepped a Very Very Wet Retriever.
Beach Buoy and Another Dog dawdled towards the stack.

Near to the Sandy Slope them met up with Team Distant Wave.
They had found a painted stone from the stack down on the beach.
Hugo and Lola said hello too.
They chatted a short while.
Beach Buoy placed the painted stone in his pocket alongside others that he had already chosen for Stubborn Dog Stack.

"Morning Mate."
He added some stones.
He patted
THE
stone.
He noticed another painted stone had been thrown from the stack.
He retrieved and replaced it.
He went to sit on his usual large stack stone.
That too had gone.
He sat down.

He sat drinking coffee.
Mr Gunn/ Nunn appeared with Alfie his excellent little dog.
They chatted a good while.

One last look from the heights of the dunes
then time to head back.
"See you mate."

They began a slow walk back.
Drops of rain hung in the air.
Little Terns worked the water's edge.

AN IMAGINED POST CARD FROM SEATON CAREW.
