SEATON SANDS. 31 OCTOBER 2020

It's a long way to Tipperary, so the song goes.
Thankfully it's a short drive from base to the beach.
They reached the windy car park at 6-46 am.

They headed for the strand line.
Sunrise would be around 7-06 am.
The wind was a strong south westerly.
It was a mild wind.

Fine spots of rain drifted in the air from the east.
The tide was well out this morning.
Grey lumpy clouds filled most of the sky.
There was a hint of clear sky where in theory the sun should rise...

Overhead, Gulls twisted and turned as they tried to make headway into the strong wind.

Dry, soft sand drifted across the beach, heading for the headland.
To be honest the sunrise was a bit of a flop.
There was just a momentary  glow of orange over beyond the river, then it was gone.

The higher dunes did offer some shelter from the strong wind.

The 7 am club were to the north, heading south.
Three Cormorant headed south too, flying close to the sea as if trying to avoid radar.

The 7 am club eventually overtook an ambling Beach Buoy and Stubborn Dog.
One of the club's dogs headed for the sea.
It was a large white retriever type dog.
It walked in the sea a while, before crossing back across the beach to join the group.
It padded across the wet sand like a Polar Bear on the hunt.
It's long fur blew in in the wind.

They stacked the stack.
A bit like digging your own grave, but at least they both know were they are heading  and what with the Lurgy coming closer and closer, well you never know when.....

Beach Buoy glanced inland.
An Industrial stack burnt off waste gas.
A ball of bright orange flame danced in the wind.
It was making a better show than what the sunrise had done.

They headed back.
Perhaps spurred on by the light of the industrial stack, the sun began to shine, a little at first.

They headed back to a waking Seaton Carew.
What would this page of 2020 have in store for everyone?
Time would tell.

The wind pushed them along as if they were late for a meeting.
They were in no rush; they had forever......

The  sun did itself proud.
Like all the good things, worth the wait and all of the dark clouds.

Never let your shadow appear in the photograph.
Not ever.
Never.

They returned to the mobile beach hut; sanctuary from the gusting wind.

They drove to the sea front, parking just in front of a lime green VW van.
They listened to the radio a while as coffee was drank.
Then time to go.
BEACH BUOY.

SEATON SANDS, HARTLEPOOL. 30 OCTOBER 2020.

Beach Buoy and Stubborn Dog left the house at 3-58 pm.
The air was still and mild.
As they walked down Elizabeth Way, they could see the Wind Turbines, out in the Bay, beyond the sand dunes.
The large white blades turned slowly.
There must have been a breeze in the exposed Bay?
It was 4-11pm when they reached the beach.
The smell of chips wafted around.
The sea was smooth, sort of metallic blue in colour, with a hint of pink.
A paint company would most probably call it Titanium Blush.

It was so mild.
The movement of the water  was made by the moon, not by some angry storms.
It moved from A to B via Sea.
Beach Buoy picked up a piece of sea pottery thanks to force of habit.
The pottery was plain white; no design.
Beach Buoy skimmed it out to sea.
Five skips.....

The Sea Serpent relaxed in the calm Bay.

The tide was slowly working its way out.

They stacked the stack.
They had a slow walk back.
It felt like about 9-45pm on a summer night as the light faded; its was 5-05.
Beach Buoy picked up the same piece of sea pottery that he had earlier skimmed out to sea.
A receding tide had left it behind.
He tried again, only four skips this time.

By the time they arrived back at base camp, the only light in the sky was a Cream Moon peeking out from behind a dark cloud in a darker sky.

Thursday 29 October 2020

SEATON SANDS 29 OCTOBER 2020.

Beach Buoy and two dogs walked to the beach.

They arrived at the beach access ramp as the Church Bells rang for 4-30pm

On the promenade a couple were having

" A Discussion ."

with a distance of 100 metres between them.

Beach Buoy and the two dogs walked the water's edge.

There was a breeze  from the west that crossed the dunes and headed out to sea.

They headed south.

The afternoon was milder than it looked.

They went up to stack the stack.

The light was beginning to fade rapidly.

By the time the walk was coming to an end it was dark.

A jogger passed in the darkness like a shadow running for a bus.

Up on the dune edge a teenage boy over laughed at an under funny event.

It was either a laugh or his attempt to sound like a Goose.

Wednesday 28 October 2020

SEATON SANDS, HARTLEPOOL 28 OCTOBER 2020.

Beach Buoy and Stubborn Dog set off on foot (On paw.) for a beach walk.

It was 3-52pm

The clocks went back last weekend for GMT.

3-52 is the new 4-52 so they say.

There was a strange light as they walked alongside the Cricket Club.

The strange light became a shower of rain in a blaze of distant sun.

It came and went.

The road was fairly quiet until a horse came trotting up the road, heading for the sea front.

It came and went with a

buggy and a lad in camouflage towed behind.

The rain stopped as a rainbow appeared over the art deco Bus Station.

They had had a bit of a soaking.

Wet is the new dry so they say.

The rainbow crossed the Bay as Beach Buoy and Stubborn Dog crossed the sands.
The Church Bells rang for 4-15pm.

There were some lovely clouds around.

Beach Buoy and Stubborn Dog headed South......

There was rainfall over towards the river mouth.

A family group passed by, heading back north.

Their dog had what could've been the longest dog lead in the world?

They could have stayed in the car and let it walk to the North Gare Pier.... probably?

They walked to the water's edge.

The sea  looked calm.

It could be very unpredictable,

almost as unpredictable as people.

They stacked the stack and admired the view.

The sky did the dance of a dying fire as the sun began to set.

The sea mirrored the colours to some extent.

The sea turned Orange.

They sea turned Pink.

The sea turned Grey.

Eventually the tide would turn too.

The colour in the sky stayed a little longer, hiding as it was behind the dunes.

It glowed like an open furnace.

Out at sea differing shades of grey slipped over one another.

They did their slow walk back to the North.

A man walked the strand line with a bag, looking for finds.

Another man walked the water's edge with his hands in his pockets looking for answers.

By now the whole sky was a multitude of greys, looking like an artist's palette  as he mixed and blended various shades  looking for that one; sky grey.

They headed back, walking into a constant line of car headlights, like an illuminated snake

as work-worn workers headed home.

It was dark now.

Night is the new day so they say.

HE HAD ENJOYED FINDING THEM, BUT NOW HAD NO NEED FOR THEM.

A NARROW LINE OF SEA COAL MARKED A PREVIOUS STRAND LINE.

THE TIDE WAS WELL OUT.
THERE WAS A BREEZE FROM THE SOUTH WEST.

A JOGGER PASSED AS THEY HEADED UP TO THE STACK.
BEACH BUOY RUBBED OLD COLD HANDS THEN SIPPED SOME HOT COFFEE.

THEY SAID GOODBYE TO THE BEACH... FOR NOW.

THEY MOVED FROM THE CAR PARK, STOPPING OPPOSITE THE VILLAGE GREEN.

THEY DID A PROMENADE WALK.

THEY WALKED AROUND THE VILLAGE GREEN.
THE DIP IN THE PATH, NEAR THE END OF THE SHADOW IS A BOMB CRATER

SEATON SANDS 24 OCTOBER 2020

THEY DROVE TO THE BEACH.

IT WAS AROUND 6-50 AM

IT WAS DARK.

BEACH BUOY SWITCHED ON THE COLOURFUL CHRISTMAS TYPE FAIRY LIGHTS THAT RAN THE LENTGH OF THE AGEING VAN'S DARK GREY DASHBOARD.

THE BRIGHT LIGHTS HELPED AT TIMES, HENCE A STRIP OF L.E.D. LIGHTS FITTED ON THE SURFACE OF THE SINK / COOKER TOP.

BEACH BUOY SAT IN THE VAN DRINKING HOT COFFEE WITH HIS GOOD FRIEND STUBBORN DOG BY HIS SIDE.

THE VAN ROCKED IN THE STRONG WIND.

ANOTHER VAN SAT IN THE WINDY CAR PARK.

A PROPER #VANLIFE VAN.

IT LOOKED LIKE THEY HAD BEEN PARKED THERE ALL NIGHT?

A CAR PULLED UP,  ALMOST ALONGSIDE

BEACH BUOY'S VAN .... IN AN ALMOST EMPTY CAR PARK.

A COUPLE WITH A DOG AND A TODDLER STEPPED OUT.

IT WAS ODD SEEING A YOUNG CHILD OUT SO EALRY AND IN THE DARK TOO.

THE LADY READ THE CAR PARKING SIGN IN WHAT WASN'T EVEN HALF LIGHT.

SATISFIED THAT THERE WAS NO NEED TO PAY, ALL FOUR HALF RAN, HALF JOGGED TO THE ACCESS RAMP.

BEACH BUOY AND STUBBORN DOG HEADED FOR THE BEACH.

BY NOW IT WAS 7-15 AM.

THE THE 7 AM CLUB HAD ALREADY REACHED THE GREY ROCKS IN DARKNESS.

BEACH BUOY COULD SEE THE DOG'S COLLARS FLASHING IN THE DISTANCE.

BEA CH BUOY AND STUBBORN DOG WENT SOUTH.

THE 7 AM CLUB RETURNED TO THE NORTH.

MARI THE LARGE FRIENDLY POODLE APPROACHED BEACH BUOY.

'TIME FOR MY 7-25 NECK SCRATCH APPOINTMENT'

SHE SEEMED TO BE SAYING.

NECK SCRATCH COMPLETED OFF SHE TROTTED, WITH A WAG OF A TAIL.

THEY STACKED THE STACK.

THEY HEADED SOUTH A LITTLE MORE.

THEY HEADED BACK.

BEACH BUOY WATCHED AS THREE OYSTER CATCHERS TOOK TURNS TO HAVE A SEA BATH.

THEY WALKED BACK SLOWLY.
