It was a Saturday afternoon.
Beach Buoy had been to work.
Once work was done, he had grabbed Stubborn Dog and headed for the nearby beach.
It was 3-29 pm when they arrived.
The car park was busy.
It was hat and coat busy, not shorts and t-shirts.
There was slight breeze from the north west.
The tide was slightly more in than it was out.
The sea itself was relatively calm.
People walked the water's edge.
Social distancing by the sea.
'Are you local?'
Frisk-me-quick.
It was becoming busy to the north.
Beach Buoy and Stubborn Dog headed south.
They left the water's edge to others, deciding to walk the shingle and shells, somewhere between the strand line and the water's edge;
the middle of somewhere.
A lady went by with five dogs.
Four were obedient; the fifth 'Hugo.' was being a bit mischievous.
Hugo all over causing funny chaos as you go Hugo.
They ambled along as they do.
Beach Buoy collected four beach stones for the stack.
They climbed the dune edge to the stack.
Unlike yesterday, today the sand was soft.
Beach Buoy was able to make his own staircase in the dune edge,
digging the toes of his beach boots into the forgiving but supportive sand.
He carefully added today's stones to the stack.
They stood watching the Sea Serpent make the most of the calmer seas.
They headed back to the beach.
Beach Buoy descended the almost vertical dune edge by digging his heels in as he went , something Stubborn Dog is all too familiar with.
They paused close to the water's edge.
The sky above the horizon began to blush Pink.
Beach Buoy had picked up a few finds as he he had walked.
He left most of these for others to find.
He kept the heart of stone, that makes two.
Two Cormorants discussed fishing tactics, before paddling across the bay at walking pace.
They looked like two Sea Swans floating on one heck of a big pond.
A Black Labrador ran ahead of its jogging owner.
Beach Buoy made a fuss of the big friendly dog.
"Thank You, C'mon Penny"
shouted the owner as she jogged off into the distance.
'Ah Penny Black.' thought Beach Buoy as a coin dropped.
A Penny.
Beach Buoy left it for a metal detectorist to find later.
Clouds drifted gently across the beach diagonal thanks to the prevailing wind direction.
As they headed back, five dog lady went by once more.
Hugo was still galloping around.
The others followed her as a skirt would a hovercraft.
They seemed to be gliding along the sandy surface.
Beach Buoy gave the access ramp a miss and cut through to the Promenade through the break in the dune wall to the south.
He plonked Stubborn Dog up on the promenade wall.
They both had a stand and think.
'I liked Penny the Labrador.' said Stubborn Dog
'She was Laradorable, you could have put a word in for me!'he added.
'Sorry Matey.'
Beach Buoy looked at his beach buddy.
A bundle of fur.
As Stubborn as a bus load of Mules who were refusing to alight at their stop.
He is looking older now.
Aren't we all?
They paused and pawsed awhile.
Beach Buoy picked Stubborn Dog up and placed him on the promenade.
'Think you will find that I am being carried to the van.' said Stubborn Dog.
He was right once more.
Beach Buoy.
