A WET WALK ON THE HEADLAND. 11 AUGUST 2019.

It was a drizzly  afternoon when Beach Buoy and Stubborn Dog went over to the Headland, Hartlepool.
The yearly carnival had finished yesterday.
The Town Moor plays host to the event.
As Beach Buoy and Stubborn Dog drove by, the big wheel was transforming into a big truck.
Some of the rides had already left, leaving a patchwork of light coloured grass where they had stood.

The walk started at the War Memorial and its beautiful gardens.
The houses at the rear were recently seen on a repeat of the TV show Vera. The episode about a young girl, jealous of her adopted sister and pretends to her on social media.
They also filmed on The Heugh Breakwater which is included later in the blogpost.

Theo Jones was his name.
Here is a link to the story of the bombardment of the Hartlepools.

THE BOMBARDMENT.
Back then, there were two Hartlepools.
Hartlepool and and West Hartlepool.
In 1967 the towns amalgamated; West Hartlepool no longer existed.
The towns football team changed from Hartlepools United  to Hartlepool F.C. (Now that the towns were united!)
It later changed to Hartlepool United.
God bless them all.

The dog friendly Heugh Battery is nearby and has a cafe and a grand collection.

If anyone should want to go visit, then ring them beforehand
as it only opens at certain times.
The Lighthouse.
On the road at the side of the lighthouse a car was parked.
On the surface of the road Beach Buoy could see the words NO PARKIN
Was the car hiding a G or was it a message to say that the Heugh Battery Cafe had ran out of biscuits?
Another car parked nearby hiding the NO, perhaps the driver was doing a Biscuit delivery  run?
letting everyone know by leaving the word PARKIN?

Next stop was The Heugh Breakwater, where Beach Buoy's Great Grandfather would ring the fogbell....

... and possibly on this bench, sat with his Irish Bride, back in the 1930's

Bridget was Catholic from County Sligo.
William was born in Hartlepool and was Protestant.
Beach Buoy has been told they agreed to bring their Girls up as Catholic and the Boys as Protestant.

As Beach Buoy walked the Breakwater, thirty or so Sanderling sheltered below . They stayed nearby, Beach Buoy was surprised how colourful they were when seen close up.
Out in the bay about the same number of Cormorant stood facing the strong breeze on the rocks surrounded by the North Sea.
