06, APRIL, 2023. SEATON SANDS, HARTLEPOOL.

It was more a question of when it would rain rather than if.
The closer the 6 p m. free parking came the cloudier it became.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog arrived at the beach car park at 6-02.
The light was odd.
The Sun wanted to put on a show but the clouds threatened to quite literally rain on the parade.

Minutes later they were on the beach.
In the distance was the tall thin elderly man with a tall thin elderly greyhound.

The tide was well in.
Beach Buoy gave a not so distant wave to his new beach mate.
Thanks to the height of the tide an "Alright there?" was added.
"Hello there."

There was a slight pleasant breeze from the West.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog headed south under a bruised sky.
The sun shone from behind the dunes.
Their sunshine shadows joined them for a while.
The sea was a contrasting colour to the sky, adding to the different seasons appearance of the bay.
Up ahead someone sat on the dune edge, watching her two dogs play on the beach below.
She stood up.
She brushed sand from her jeans.
She waved to two figures heading North from the Gare.
The group met up before heading back to the village as one.

A man passed by with two dogs
Beach Buoy and the man chatted.
One of his dogs stood shaking like a leaf.
The other smaller dog looked towards the dunes with a driftwood stick held tightly in its teeth.
"She always turns her back on me when l stop to talk " explained the man.
Beach Buoy told the story of the stack.
"Aw bless."

6-38 p.m.
"Evening Mate."
Beach Buoy added some stones.
He patted
THE
stone.
To avoid a possible soaking they headed back.
"See you tomorrow mate "

The headed for the sandy slope.

The dark clouds were rolling towards them.
The breeze from the west was now a wind from the north.
The temperature dropped.

Rain was already falling out in the bay.
Within minutes the sea would be as dark as the sky.

They quickened their pace.

They reached the van at 6-55
The rain began not long afterwards.

BEACH BUOY.

SEATON SANDS HARTLEPOOL. 04,APRIL, 2023.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog parked up at 6-34 p.m.

They headed for the beach access ramp.

The tall elderly gentleman with a tall elderly greyhound was heading up the ramp as they left the beach.

They had never spoken before, on the width of the beach.

Now they were funnelled into conversation by the narrowness of the ramp.

"Hello there." said Beach Buoy.

"Hello, we haven't had rain for a while."

"Yes, it's been a lovely day."

" I was behind you the other night when it poured down."

"Oh yes." answered Beach Buoy, adding l didn't have the van, l went and sheltered in the bus station. We were soaked."

Beach Buoy and Another Dog descend to the beach.

The strangers had a shared experience.

Now they have spoken, it will be distant waves out on the width of the beach.

All good.

"Better than any bath l've ever had. " said the gentleman as he continued up the ramp.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog headed down towards the sea.

Clouds hung over the village.

It has been a sunny and warm day.

A mild breeze blew.

Near the dunes three teenagers had dug a hole so deep that two had to reach down and jointly pull the other out.

The three headed off towards the car park, large spades on their shoulders as some dune dwellers looked on.

Once the diggers had gone the dune dwellers were drawn towards the hole.

Was it all a cunning trap?

Those dune dwellers can be elusive

Beach Buoy and Another Dog carried on to the sea.
A Pale Moon hung in the bay.
It almost looked like a circular cloud, such was it's appearance.

They headed south with a Gull and The Sea Serpent for company.
In the distance a small boat crossed the bay
North to South.
Hartlepool to the River Tees.
Their walked continued.

Two more dune dwellers looked down onto the beach.

As if giving chase to the small boat, six Oyster Catchers flew south.
Like the seven dwarfs minus Sleepy, they whistled as they worked.
Up ahead two dogs barked as they ran to and from their three human companions.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog made their way to the sandy slope.
Beach Buoy put a hand to the side of his mouth.
He shouted out towards the Sea Serpent.
"Are you ok?"
The friendly creature raised a flipper.
It was a yes.
Beach Buoy smiled.
He wanted his friend to be well.
Somewhere out there,
"Are you ok?" echoed silently.
I'm "Fine." thought Beach Buoy.

After another struggle up the sandy slope, they reached Stubborn Dog Stack.
It was 7-01 p.m.
Beach Buoy added some stones.
He patted
THE
stone.
"Evening Mate.'
Beach Buoy watched as the Sea Serpent
rolled and twisted on the surface of the sea.
Sometimes creatures would cling to it.
Some in the sea.
Some stood on a dune near a stack of stones.
The Sea Serpent is a good friend to have.

The breeze had stopped.
It was odd.
If anything, being on the dune edge would invite a breeze to show itself.

Another Dog laid in the sand alongside the stack.
She looked completely relaxed and happy with life.

All good.

Idle and confused Wind Turbines looked towards the breeze's last known location.
Without the wind they are all just
 Sea Statues.
Their immobile blades pointing to a multitude of protractor points
Angles, not Angels of the North.

"See you mate."
They returned to the beach.
Beach Buoy gave the stack and The Serpent a distant wave.

To the north, the sky had turned denim and peach.
At the water's edge it looked like the very very wet Retriever owner had found a lady friend?
He had been noticeable by his absence recently.
The lady had a dog too.
Beach Buoy hoped all four were happy with life and each other.

It was a lovely walk in a lovely evening.

Beach Buoy paused.
He stood upright, arms behind his back as though listening to an important speech.
He was.
It was the sea, the sky and the beach that spoke to him.
A distant but welcome Pheasant heckled from a hidden dune.

Beach Buoy watched as the sun began to lower.
An evening glow spilt across the fields to the west as if the Sun was a bursting egg-yoke.

Another couple walked by the sea; life on the edge in a good way.

Over the dunes, a Kestrel appeared.
Beach Buoy felt honoured.

He watched as the Beautiful Bird scanned the dunes.

Beach Buoy headed to the access ramp.

Others had took ownership of the deep hole.

Teenagers carried a large  driftwood branch to the hole on their shoulders.

The large branch was hopefully stood upright in the hole.

The teenagers began to backfill the hole.

It reminded Beach Buoy of John Wesley's comment about preaching in Hartlepool.

"Trying to grow a crop in the sand "

The hole seemed like that field in the film Field of dreams

"Build it and they will come"

In the case of the hole it was dig it and they will come.

They did.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog began to climb up the access ramp.

Ten others were up ahead.

It felt like a mass exodus.

No one wanted to hear what Wesley had to say.

Beach Buoy sat in the van a while.

A couple pulled up in a grey Aston Martin.

They headed for the Promenade wall with coffee cups and a bundle of fast food.

The lady looked at the sea.

The man looked at his Aston Martin.

 BEACH BUOY.

SEATON SANDS HARTLEPOOL. 3, APRIL 2023.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog arrived in the busy car park at 6-21 p.m.
It was a gloriously sunny evening.
There was a cooling breeze from the south.
Beach Buoy was wearing double orange
No hoods required tonight.

There was a clear sky
Vapour trails, like sports logos hung in the air in place of cloud.

An unusual vessel left the River.

Glass hearts are fragile.
Real ones are too.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog reached Stubborn Dog Stack.
It was 6-48 p.m.
"Evening Mate."
Beach Buoy added some stones.
He patted
THE
stone.
Beach Buoy looked around.
The scene felt like the start of a summer's day rather than the end of a spring one.
Things felt hopeful.

People milled around.
An empty beach is a treasure but sharing this evening's with like-minded people was fine too.

"See you mate."

They returned to the beach.
They returned to the van.

The van kettle went on.

SEATON SANDS HARTLEPOOL, 02, APRIL 2023.

It was a lovely sunny but fresh evening.

Too nice not to have a second trip of the day to the beach.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog parked up at 6-42 p.m.

The van was as clean as a whistle.

It had just been washed and waxed.

As he was finishing the last buff of polish, someone stopped to ask if the van was for sale.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🚐🏴‍☠️

There was about just as many moons as there were clouds in the sky.
A family walked the water's edge with colourful buckets.
They may have had spades to match but the were too far away to confirm.

Silhouettes walked the heights of the dune edge.
It's a regular sight on the lighter nights.

The tide had been and gone again since this morning.
The blank canvas that it had left behind had been used to write stories of differing beach walks; footprints were footnotes.
Memories and memos.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog headed to Stubborn Dog Stack.
The sunlight spread across the dunes like butter on warm toast.
"Evening Mate."
Beach Buoy added some stones.
He patted
THE
stone.
It was 7-09 p.m.
Beach Buoy soaked up the late sunlight.

"See you mate."
They went back to the beach.

As the headed for the van, the sunset and the car park, The German Shepherds Owners Club appeared.

They headed off with barking dogs, the owners all dressed in hi-viz jackets.

Beach Buoy would call them lime green coats, others say yellow

🤔

 2, APRIL 2023.
THE SAND MARTINS ARRIVE.

You will never know when the first Sand Martin of the year is your last first Sand Martin of the year.

BEACH BUOY.

SEATON SANDS HARTLEPOOL 02 APRIL 2023.

Sunday.
Beach Buoy and Another Dog reached the car park at
6-28 a.m.
The only sun around was in the name of the day
But it was early yet.

The tide was well out.
A silver grey sea broke onto the beach.
Beach Buoy raised three hoods.
It was fresh.
The 7 a.m. club were heading south.
Team Distant Wave were heading north.

The two groups met as they often do.
They chatted.

Beach Buoy waited until they were heading their separate ways.

He took over a drawing to Team Distant Wave.
In memory of the lost pup.
They liked it.
It was in a white frame.
A frame can make anything look better.

A £5 note in a frame would look like it was worth £10, even in a £2.99 frame.

They went their separate ways.

A couple walked towards the village.
The sky above them had a hint of orange.

A sea pottery Gull head.

Out in the bay, the Sun began to radiate through the clouds.

It was less colourful to the north.
A man played fetch with his dog down by the sea.
Beach Buoy and Another Dog headed to Stubborn Dog Stack.

"Morning Mate."
Beach Buoy added some stones.
He patted
THE
stone.
He sat on a stack stone.
He drank coffee with a fresh breeze blowing in his face
Gulls drifted overhead like expertly-made paper aeroplanes.

A ship passed by the Wind Turbines as it headed for the river.

"See you mate."
They headed south towards Sand Martin Corner.

There was a dot in the distance, it was the only other person on the beach.

As they passed Camp Distant Wave, Beach Buoy could see that a red flag was flying.
Someone had made use of an old crab pot marker.

Early morning sunlight swept the village like a pavement-proud shopkeeper.

Old friends.

Beach Buoy went to Sand Martin Corner.
He wanted to note the date that the Sand Martin's arrived.
Still 11 days to go to last year's date.
13 April he first saw the first of them in 2022.

Suddenly the unmistakable silhouette of a Sand Martin flew by.
Just the one but nevertheless

2, April 2023
Sand Martins.
🤗

They headed back a little reluctantly.
Two headed south along the water's edge.

The Sun began to shine brightly.
Distant Beach Huts looked like jewels encased in a seafront settings.
The beach below 18 carat gold.

They ambled back slowly.
Beach Buoy sat in the van a while.

The Little People walked the Promenade wall.
They hadn't noticed Beach Buoy and Another Dog sat in the van.
Watching.
Smiling.

BEACH BUOY.

Saturday, 1 April 2023

SEATON SANDS HARTLEPOOL. 01, APRIL, 2023.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog arrived in the van at the beach car park
at 6-38 a.m.
They took a short walk towards the beach access ramp.
"My dog is down there, but it's friendly."
said a man that Beach Buoy had never seen before."
The dog came bounding up the ramp as the two men began to head down.
It was just wanting the man to throw a ball for it.
The man obliged.
"Greyhounds like to run." said Beach Buoy.
"It's half Greyhound, half Doberman." came the reply.
They went their separate ways.
Beach Buoy headed south pondering....
Doberhound?
Greyman?

It was overcast.
There was a fresh breeze from the north.
The tide was well out.
Beach Buoy and Another Dog headed south.

The 7 a.m. club and Team Distant Wave were up ahead.
One group walked the water's edge, the other the strand-line.
Beach Buoy chatted the the distant wave group as they returned north.

The 7 a.m. club came by next.
They chatted too.

A jogger jogged.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog headed to Stubborn Dog Stack.
Beach Buoy added some stones.
He patted
THE
stone.
It was 7-04 a.m.

"Morning Mate."
Beach Buoy sat with a coffee and Another Dog.
He watched waves break over Headland Pier.
After a while they headed back.
Mr Gunn/Nunn came by as he and Alfie headed south.
They chatted about life, then said farewell.

Up to the north, Team Muzzled Dog were just arriving onto the beach.

A metal detectorist......

Slow walk back.
It began to rain.

The rain came, as did passers by.
Beach Buoy sat in the van.
The rain stopped.

Beach Buoy ventured back to the Promenade wall.
The rain had stopped.
The clouds gave a strong hint that there could be more soon.
BEACH BUOY.

IMAGINED TRACKS.

SAND IN MY BOOTS.

IF IT WASN'T FOR THE RIVERS,
I COULD WALK FOR MILES,
SADLY THERE'S NO FERRY,
SO I WILL SIT A WHILE.

BEING BY THE SEA,
IS WHAT I DO THE MOST,
SO ITS TRUE WHEN THEY SAY,
I REALLY HUG THE COAST.

I COULD SIT FOR HOURS,
AND SOMETIMES I DO,
LOOKING AT THE SKY ABOVE,
AND THE SEA, SO BLUE.

IT REALLY MAKES ME HAPPY,
I SHOULD MAKE A CAMP,
SITTING IN A SHELTER,
WHEN THE WEATHER'S DAMP.

BEACHES ARE NOT EVERY-
BODY'S CUP OF TEA,
SO WALK ON BY,
DON'T JOIN ME,
BUT COME AND YOU WILL FIND ME,
WAVING AT A BOAT,
NOT DISCREETLY HIDDEN.
IN AN ORANGE COAT.

BEACH BUOY.
