SEATON SANDS, HARTLEPOOL. 30, NOVEMBER 2024.

 Saturday.

It would have been Geoff Walker's first day of retirement.

His Birthday.

Geoff was a great man.

He was as funny as he was loved, so that means hilariously funny.

Imagine Eric Morecambe, Oliver Hardy and Bobby Ball all  merged in to one.

That was Geoff, in Beach Buoy's humble opinion.

He was brilliant craftsman.

A gifted teacher.

A cricket coach and umpire.

A bowls player

In music, a sound engineer.

He knew all anyone needed to know about nature due to his fishing and shooting experience.

He cared for people and nature.

He always spoke up for what was right.

There was so much more.

Beach Buoy has just scratched the surface.

Beach Buoy has a way of looking at death.

We are all on an unstoppable ship.

People pass.

It's like

 "Man overboard!"

The ship can't stop.

It carries on.

Beach Buoy is still checking the rope that is trailing from the ship into the sea.

Half expecting and fully hoping that Geoff is there holding on, shouting ...

"Pull me up you stupid boy."

(In the style of Captain Mainwaring off Dads Army, talking to Private Pike.)

...........

Beach Buoy and Another Dog walked to the beach.

It was so very mild.

It felt like a morning in May, not the last day of November.

They headed north for a short while along The Esplanade.

It was 9-04 a.m.
There was a welcome breeze from the west.
You don't have many of them in November.
Beach Buoy unzipped his coat and took off his snood.

The tide was way out.
The Seaton Carew Wreck was on show.

The night before, Beach Buoy had done some rough sketches.
Beach Buoy had once tried to figure out how old Stubborn Dog would be once Beach Buoy's working days were done.
He would have been around twelve years old.
He passed aged nine.
So Beach Buoy was planning some cards of how they would have got out and about as Stubborn Dog became less energetic or able.
Dog Pushchair, Bike Trailer or just carried.

There was a lady carrying an old dog, while it's three younger companions round around full of life.
😔

The beach was vast.
Everyone had their own space.

Beach Buoy and Another headed south.
A man headed northwards with large headphones on.
The curve of his arms matched that of the headphones.
A Seaton Snooks Tea Room Card will follow in time.

The lady with a white dog and a black dog had chosen to walk the beach not dunes today.

A couple with a German Shepherd were nearby, heading south also.
As Beach Buoy gathered six stack stones rather than five, the couple had claimed the big slope.
Beach Buoy took the low road.
He clambered up to the stack.
Moments later the couple arrived.
They were a lovely couple who passed the stack often.
They had seen the painted stones.
Beach Buoy explained the full stack history.
They were glad to hear who Stubborn Dog was, what he looked like.
They carried on southwards up along the dune heights.

Beach Buoy added six stones to Stubborn Dog Stack.
"Happy Birthday Geoff.
Six stones because Cricket Umpires have six stones in their pockets.
Swapping one to another pocket every time a ball is bowled.
An empty pocket means the end of an over
Morning Mate."
He patted the stone.
He sat.

It felt like Spring.

People passed on the beach below.

Beach Buoy thought about Geoff..
He watched the sea and felt the warmth of the November Sun.
A confused fly landed on Beach Buoy's hand.

"Eventually, "See you mate."

Down The Big Slope.

Then he heard Geoff's sound.
Geese.
Six Geese.
They flew in from the sea.
They turned south along the dune edge.

They flew over Stubborn Dog Stack.
Six Geese.

Wild Geese.

The German Shepherd couple overtook a smiling Beach Buoy
Six.

A horse rider travelled the water's edge .

Later......
"Six eh..."

29, NOVEMBER 2024. SEATON SANDS HARTLEPOOL.

It has been a funny old day.

Beach Buoy, Borrowed Dog and Another Dog arrived at the beach at 12-25 p.m.

The tide was about as far in as it was out.

The Seaton Carew Wreck was still at sea.

It was just an overcast afternoon.

In fact, it was just afternoon.

To the north, a lady walked dog as three people stood in the sea.

A lady in a bright yellow coat walked up near the esplanade with her two dogs.

Beach Buoy was led to the sea by the tractor tyre tracks.
There are many worse places to end up.

Beach Buoy checked north before heading south.

A tall man with a tall dog walked alongside a short lady with a short dog.

A man stood looking out to sea as his two Yorkshire Terriers sat waiting in matching red coats.
A ship sailed into the river.
Beach Buoy and the dogs headed to the Big Slope.

Beach Buoy paused at the top.
He looked at the industry that seemed to hold the river like a canal.

He had built a few oil rigs in his day.
He may have even help build the one shown?
No more industry now.
He, like it,waiting, for the end now.

He checked back to the beach below.

The new normal...

They set off along the "easy " route.

"Afternoon Mate."
It was 1-09.
Beach Buoy added some stones.
He patted
THE
stone.
He sat on the driftwood bench.

He sat watching as the bright yellow boat that services the Wind Turbines headed back to Hartlepool.

"See you mate."
They headed back along the "easy" route.

One man and his dog led the way back to the north.
The man wore a Dut.
An older man in a flat cap passed him as he headed south.
The two men nodded in silence.

HOLD THE PRESS!
What is a Dut some may ask?
It is a woolen hat.
Some, not Beach Buoy, call them a beanie ?
Some, not Beach Buoy, call them a bobble  hat.
As did Beach Buoy's teacher when marking a work written when Beach Buoy was nine or so.
Young Beach Buoy wrote.
"I go to watch Hartlepool play football.
When l do l wear my blue and white dut."
The teacher crossed out "Dut" with a red pen and wrote Bobble Hat.
The funny thing is that it didn't have a bobble.
So maybe Beach Buoy should have crossed that out and wrote "Beanie."
See how the teacher liked being corrected?
Also for reference it's good to check back because auto correct changed woolen to wooden... That's a big difference when it comes to hats.

The litterpick man worked the strand-line, filling his green plastic with other people laziness.

Beach Buoy and the dogs returned back to the van.

28, NOV. 2024. SEATON SANDS HARTLEPOOL.

 No beach yesterday.

Beach Buoy spent much of the day either sleeping or throwing up.

All ok today.

Thursday.

Beach Buoy, Borrowed Dog and Another Dog parked up in Seaton Park Car Park.

As they turned into the Park, Beach Buoy gave a wave to Team One Black Ear.

Walk done, they were heading home.

It was very icy.

They arrived at 8-19 a m.

The usual van side fuss and faff meant that it was 8-30 when they reached sand.

The tide was way out.
There was a slight but chilling breeze from the west.

They set off southwards as they invariably do.

A lady with a tall terrier headed north.
The dog had a proud walk.

Beach Buoy was drawn towards the wreck.
It can't be helped.

The tide was out beyond the wreck.
Steam rose from a warm sea on an icy day.
Beach Buoy's Grandfather and Uncle were  Fouyboatman.
The Uncle told the story of how on icy days they would dip their hands in the sea to warm up after pulling wet ropes as they tied incoming ships up.

Beach Buoy chose pockets and gloves to warm his hands up today.
God bless them all.

There was lots of shingle scatter today, south of the wreck site.
It would be rude not to search.
Beach Buoy searched.

Along the water's edge a lady threw a ball for her excited dog to chase.

"Oh my goodness."
Beach Buoy said out loud.
A lovely piece of sea pottery.
He doesn't keep much any more but this one is a keeper.

Beach Buoy and the dogs wandered up towards the dune edge.
Up on the heights a lady walked with her two dogs.
One White.
One Black.

A man and a Corgi walked northwards.

Beach Buoy and the dogs climbed The Big Slope.

They walked the "easy" route.

The Sea Serpent Marker from up on the "easy" route.

The steaming effect is quite visible on this photograph.
Lots of times it doesn't seem to show very well.
They progressed to Stubborn Dog Stack.

"Morning Mate."
It was 9-11.
Beach Buoy added five beach stones to the stack.
He patted
THE
stone.
He turned over one of the two frosty planks and sat.
He sat watching the steaming sea.
It looked so odd even though he had been fortunate enough to see it on many occasions.

Eventually...
 "See you mate."
They slid down the small slope in front of the stack.
They headed north to clear the grey rocks.
Once clear of the rocks they headed south to Sand Martin Corner.

A Lone Oyster Catcher pecked at some seaweed.

To the north, two walked with a yapping dog.

Beach Buoy and the dogs continued south to The Sun.

It was a beautiful morning.
Beach Buoy paused.
Two hoods came down.
Beach Buoy took deep fresh breaths as he looked out to sea.

The yapping dogs had turned back.
Another had arrived.
Distant yaps and nearby yaps just sounded like each others echo.

The crumbling machine gun post looked down as Beach Buoy searched more shingle deposits.

Beach Buoy and the dogs turned to head back.
The tide had turned.
Tell tale swirls on low lying sands highlighted the sea's return.

As they passed the wreck once more the sea was moving in to claim it yet again.
A hopeful dog walker stood aboard perhaps hoping for a tour of the bay?
Or perhaps not?

TUESDAY. 26, NOV. 2024. SEATON SANDS, HARTLEPOOL

Beach Buoy, Borrowed Dog and Another Dog headed to the beach.

They parked up in Seaton Carew Park.

The Village Church Bells rang for 8 a.m. as they arrived.

Sea swimmers headed back to their clothes by The Esplanade.

Sea coal and frost dusted the beach.

Beach Buoy and the dogs headed south.

It was a sunglasses type of morning.
The Seaton Carew Wreck was on show.

The wreck today.

A lady and her Spaniel headed south on the strand-line.
The lady walked with her head hung down, a determined looking walk.

Seaglass.

 Milk bottle perhaps?

The Sun was very bright.
They continued southwards.

Up on the strand-line, a man walked northwards with his Border Collie.
The dog ran around in small circles as if watching watching Invisible Gulls.

A lady walked the dune heights with a black dog and a white dog.

They headed to The Big Slope.
A Crow stood at it's base like a doorman.
"Affiliated mate." said Beach Buoy as they passed.
At the top of the stack Beach Buoy looked to see if the "easy" route was clear.
He looked into the Bright Sun, using his hand as a cap peak.
It wasn't.
He couldn't see the size or breed of dog heading their way with it's owner.
To save hassle on the narrow route, Beach Buoy went back down the big slope.

"Affiliated." laughed the Crow.

Beach Buoy and the dogs cut along the front of the dunes.
They climbed the small and recently created access slope to the stack.

"Morning Mate."
Beach Buoy added some stones.
He patted
THE
stone.
It was 8-53 a.m.
He sat on the double planked seat.

He watched the sea and the sky.
He checked the beach below.
The "easy" route dog
was big
was off the lead
Good call.

Beach Buoy waited a while.
"See you mate."

They returned to the beach by sliding down the small slope.

Beach Buoy and the dogs headed back to the van.

A man walked southwards with his dog, close to the dune edge.
He walked a reluctant walk as though he was a small child being sent to bed early.
