IMAGINED TRACKS.

WATER'S EDGE.

SHAPE SHIFTER, SHAPE DRIFTER,

I USED TO KNOW YOUR EVERY THOUGHT.

NOW ITS SO, SO DIFFERENT,

GUESS I GET A SCORE OF NOUGHT.

ALL CHANGING, ARRANGING,

EVERYTHING SO NO ONE KNOWS.

SO RANDOM, NO TANDEM,

ONLY YOU KNOW WHERE IT GOES.

Chorus.

YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE,

LIKE A WATER'S EDGE.

CONSTANTLY CHANGING,

LIVING ON A NARROW LEDGE.

EBB-FLOWING, YOU'RE GOING,

OUT AND THE YOU'RE GOING IN.

YOU HIDE, HIGH TIDE,

LIKE A CHESHIRE CAT YOU GRIN.

BEACH BUOY.

SEATON SANDS HARTLEPOOL 24, MARCH, 2023.

Friday.
A day off
As Beach Buoy turned at the T-junction at the end of the road, a workmate's car passed by, work bound.
Beach Buoy turned left, beach bound.
It was 6-32 a.m.
Shortly afterwards, Beach Buoy and Another Dog were on a bright and breezy beach.

A one man 7 a.m. club paused to chat
It wasn't a long chat.
It was the deepest of discussions in the shortest of times.
Old men can do that.

A lady walked her Yorkshire Terrier near the water's edge.

Beach Buoy pulled two hoods.
It wasn't cold.
It was just because.

A Parcel of Oyster Catchers paddled in the sea.
The lady with the Yorkshire Terrier passed by, returning north.
"Morning."
"Morning."
They had chatted before.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog continued south.
The tide was well in.
It was a narrow beach.

Team Distant Wave passed.
No distant waves, thanks to the narrow beach
It was chats today.
They had just had coffee up at Camp Distant Wave.
Tragically one of the two young fox-like pups had lost its life due to a birth defect.
Tragedy.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog headed to Stubborn Dog Stack.
"Morning Mate."

Beach Buoy added some stones plus one extra for the lost pup.
He patted
THE
stone.
Beach Buoy drank a stack coffee.
A breeze had become a wind.

Rainfall seemed to be heading down river.
No Tug required.
"See you mate."
They returned to The Sandy Slope that led back to the beach.
Spots of rain began to fall, both random but constant all rolled into one.

The Sun shone.
"Rainbow?"
 Beach Buoy asked himself.

"Yes "
answered the sky.

Pot of the gold up in the dunes.

They headed back to the van.
Beach Buoy sat watching the sea.
It's what he does best after all said and done.

BEACH BUOY.

IMAGINED TRACKS.

SITTING THINKING.

I HAVE GOT FOREVER,
HOWEVER LONG THAT IS.
SAT HERE PEOPLE WATCHING,
MAN WITH A WIFE, NOT HIS.
I'VE NO DESTINATION,
NO PLACE I NEED TO BE.
I'M JUST SITTING THINKING,
THINKING-BY-THE-SEA.

MEMORIES DON'T HAUNT ME,
WELL MAYBE ONE OR TWO.
I WON'T LET THEM TAUNT ME,
AFFECTING WHAT I DO.
WHEN THE DAY IS OVER,
ITS JUST MY THOUGHTS AND ME.
I'M JUST SITTING THINKING,
THINKING -BY-THE-SEA.

Chorus.

SITTING THINKING,
DROWNING SINKING,
SITTING THINKING,
CRYING BLINKING.

SO IF ONE DAY YOU SEE ME,
I'LL SAY I'M DOING FINE
MY TRUE THOUGHTS DEEPLY HIDDEN,
THEY'LL BE STAYING MINE.
THE TRUTH MAY BE SO OBVIOUS,
BUT STILL YOU JUST WON'T SEE
THAT I'M JUST SITTING THINKING,
THINKING -BY-THE-SEA

IMAGINED TRACKS.

 AGAINST THE TIDE.

I WAS FLOATING,
GOING NOWHERE FAST.
THE WIND WAS BLOWING,
WITH AN ICY BLAST.
SLOWLY DRIFTING,
WITH NOWHERE TO HIDE.
LIFE IS HARDER, AGAINST THE TIDE.

THOUGHT I SAW YOU,
IN A PASSING BOAT.
YOU TOOK PITY.
AND YOU THREW A FLOAT.
I COULDN'T REACH,
EVEN THOUGH I TRIED.
LIFE IS HARDER,
AGAINST THE TIDE.

I HEARD YOU LAUGHING,
AS YOU SAILED AWAY.
I WAS PRAYING,
YOU WERE GOING TO STAY.
IN COMPLETE CONTRAST,
I JUST BOBBED AND CRIED.
LIFE IS HARDER,
AGAINST THE TIDE.

I UNDERSTAND,
THAT YOU HAD TO GO.
LIFE IS EASY,
GOING WITH THE FLOW.
GUESS YOU'VE ALWAYS,
HAD AN EASY RIDE.
BUT LIKE IS HARDER AGAINST THE TIDE.

SEATON SANDS HARTLEPOOL, 21, MARCH, 2023.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog set off on foot at 4-01 p.m.
Planet Funland were setting up on the grass near the Promenade as they do this time of year.
They headed down to the beach.
A friendly dog called Oscar came over a few times.
Beach Buoy chatted briefly to the owner.

Oscar headed north, in hot pursuit of a thrown ball.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog turned to the south.
The tide was well in.
It had peaked and was heading back out.

A man passed by, heading north.
His trousers were in his socks.
Another man passed by, heading north.
Presumably his trousers were in the wardrobe?
He wore shorts.
Little mounds of shingle were being left behind by the receding sea.

Sea Pottery.
A bird in the hand.

The shingle patches gave up a few pieces of sea pottery as they walked.

The village looked lovely in the bright but cloudy afternoon.
It was a blowy beach today.

"Afternoon Mate."
It was 4-49.
Beach Buoy added some stones.
He patted
THE
stone.
No coffee today.
Beach Buoy sat on a large stack stone, facing the sea.
He reflected, both in thought and sunlight.

Another Dog sat reflecting too.

Time to go.

A slow walk back..
Up the access ramp, onto the Promenade.
Beach Buoy reached into his beach bag.
As he approached a rubbish bin, out came a beach-cleaned plastic bottle.
The angle of the bottle was such that the breeze played the sound of a distant fog horn.

The scene on a recent walk to the beach.

It really did happen.

An outbreak of Orange Coats.

BEACH BUOY.

SEATON SANDS HARTLEPOOL. 19 MARCH , 2023.

Beach Buoy had been awake ages.
He had laid in bed, thankful that it was Sunday not Monday.
By 5-08a.m. the kettle had boiled.
By 6-11, Beach Buoy was on the beach alone.
For the second Sunday in a row, Another Dog was having none of it.
The biggest surprise was that she hadn't left a note asking Beach Buoy to buy her a morning paper on the way back!

The 7 a.m club were in the distance to the south as were Team Distant Wave.

To the north, seafront windows took it in turns to reflect the morning sunlight.

Horizon cloud hid the moment of sunrise.
Typical in an otherwise clear sky.

A late arrival to the 7 a.m. club passed by with his lovely polar bear of a dog.
" Morning Paul."
"Morning."
Arms were waved as if to second the greetings.

Twelve Oyster Catchers; a Parcel, flew over the water's edge. Their calls seemed to echo off one another.

The Sun cleared the low cloud.
The wet sand gave gorgeous reflections.

Up ahead Team Distant Wave and the
7 a.m. club have joined forces.
They headed back as one to the north.
They stopped to chat to a passing jogger.
Dogless Beach Buoy managed to pass by unnoticed, down by the water's edge.
It would save all of the
"Where is she ?"
 questions.

Beach Buoy continued south.
He had a strange thought as he looked at the reflections on the beach.
"How come something across the river,
(The Steel Works.)
reflect on this beach?

"Morning Mate."
It was 6-40 a.m.
Beach Buoy added some stones.
He patted
THE
stone.
He drank coffee.
He thought thoughts, good and bad.
He thought more thoughts, happy and sad.
"See you mate, miss you "

He headed back to the beach.
He walked to the sea
He walked to the Sun.

The sea was lovely.
The sunlight was face and heart warming.
Beach Buoy faced the Sun.
He cupped his hands as if washing his face from a sink.
With sunlight splashing on his face he began to wash away those cold, dark and long months.

November fell first, into the sea like a shed skin.
It swirled around in the shallows, almost coming back to shore before being taken out to sea.
December fell, then tumbled to the dunes in the breeze.
January fell day by day, like flakes of snow.
February was snatched by greedy gulls.
Gone...
Cleansed Beach Buoy headed back.

A man walked along by the sea.
Every now and then he would self-consciously crouch to take a close up photograph.

Team Muzzled Dog set off south as Beach Buoy returned to the van.

SEATON SANDS HARTLEPOOL 18, MARCH, 2023.

Saturday afternoon.
Beach Buoy and Another Dog set off for the beach on foot at 3-48 p.m.
It was overcast.
As they headed towards the golf club, Beach Buoy could see that the wind turbines beyond were stood idle.
At the end of the sea front, a captured moon was being used as a lamp.
Around ten minutes after setting off they were crossing the Promenade to reach the beach.
Two people chatted happily on one of the happy to chat benches.
One looked happier than the other.
It was the angle of lean that gave it away.

Dramatic clouds ran across the sky as if trying to avoid a shower.

A broken fence of people lined the water's edge.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog headed south with black clouds and a man with an annoying voice were close behind.
Beach Buoy and Another Dog sped up.
More to escape the man talking on blue tooth than escape the clouds.
It wasn't working he was gaining, the clouds too.

It became darker.

It began to rain.
They headed back for shelter.
The Bluetooth man thankfully headed to the dunes.

They headed for the bus station shelter.

It's clock was incorrect.

It's shelters were dry.

A perfect place to wait for the rain to ease.

Until ... A man on Bluetooth came to continue his conversation.
He couldn't have stood much closer.
Beach Buoy and Another Dog braved the rain and let the man be.

There are thankfully, rare times when the sea is rough, the tide is high and the Sea Buckthorn really is a pain in the ...
On those times.
SOMETIMES A DISTANT WAVE WILL DO.
