SEATON SANDS 30-10-16.

Well the clocks went back.
I had worked until 3-30.
So it was a dash to the Beach with a high tide.
Then it was dark just after 5pm ... Oh Dear!

There wasn't many people around, some, but not many.

Balloons are bad news for wildlife.
I have never heard of this chip shop, there isn't one around here .
It must have travelled a fair distance.
Balloons are a cheap way of getting children to advertise for you.
STOP IT !

SEATON CAREW , HARTLEPOOL. 29-10-16

The tide had just turned, leaving only a narrow strip of Beach to search.

Every now and then a wave would try and catch you out,

Not my doing .

The Glass.

The Pot.

SEATON CAREW , 28 OCTOBER 2016. HAPPINESS IS THE KEY

The clocks go back at the weekend :-(
At the moment some work days allow me my Beach fix but with the nights closing in it will mean less and less Beach visits.
I'm dreading the long dark nights so much.
I have been working weekend overtime and using up remaining holidays by taking Wednesdays off recently to break up the week, but I only have a couple of Wednesdays left in the bank to take but at least these allow daytime visits to Beaches.
It must seem funny to some people in other situations, professions or countries to be working the weekends, but it's part and parcel of the line of work I ended up in.
I should maybe get going and start to make something from all of my finds, but there's a limit to how much I can stash around the place and I certainly don't have a selling bone in my body.
I have made some things and they were either given away or are still lurking in the bursting at the seams shed.

It was a nice calm walk, just myself and two dogs in tow.
With one of them the phrase is perfect as half the time he is like a sand locked water-skier. He loves the Beach as much as I do but is very stubborn, but then again aren't well all in different ways?

It was only at the end of the walk I realised I had lost my car key on the beach.
Many trips up and down the Beach failed to locate it.
It's not the end of the world and worse things happen at sea they say.
The search went from daylight to the glow of sunset pictured below and into darkness with a phone screen's light as a guide.
It's odd, I think I know when I lost it.
It's all to do with what I call the ripple effect.

It happened like this....
I sit with three others at work at the canteen table to have our BAIT. Two are well on the way to retirement and I worked out we had a combined age between the four of us of 244 !
The other night I saw boxes of Candy sticks with tattoos free inside, the type of tattoo were you wet your arm and stick them on.
Candy sticks were once known as Candy Cigarettes and they had a red tip as if the cigarette was lit.
I bought us all a box and gave them out at bait time.
They went down well; tattoos, fake tabs and all.
Anyway one of my workmates put his tattoo of a storm trooper on his hand. He arrived home to find a toffee apple waiting for him. So it was then he text me with a picture of his tattooed hand with toffee apple... like being a kid again....

I must have pulled the key from my pocket whilst getting my mobile phone to look at the text.
So the ripple effect theory is.... if i hadn't have taken the tabs in the Key wouldn't be lapping about in the sea somewhere.
Someone may find it 50 years from now and wonder what it's story is?

MIDDLETON AND SEATON CAREW 26-10- 16.

A day off and first light at Middleton Beach, Hartlepool.
All pictures taken by phone now.
The tide was just turning from low tide.
There was more sand than last time, so that meant less chance of finds.
I came down via the bank top on Ferry Lane and as is the norm some plank thought it OK to tip bags of rubbish!
What is it about bank tops that make scum think it OK to fly tip?
GO TO THE COUNCIL TIP!

Just one of the Buoys.

I spent a good  while watching the glow of the freshly risen Sun colour the sky in shades of yellow; ever changing.

No great shakes on the sea pottery front; it's a record if nothing else.

Mainly just clear glass.
There was one piece of patterned milk glass.
So it was back to the car and a slow drive along the seafront to Seaton Carew.

The light at Seaton Carew was two shades dimmer, but a low tide  and some shingle patches made up for it.

RON sea glass, most probably a CAMERON bottle tossed tumbled and broken by the ravages of the North Sea.

Some nice designs on the sea pottery, I love the flowers.
A clay pipe stem and a bottle top too.

Sea glass finds.....

I sometimes wonder why I keep the blog going
but I do.
If you read it
then it's for you.

SEATON SANDS HARTLEPOOL 24-10-16

The nights are closing in, so it was... in from work, coat on ... dogs out. I headed straight down to the water's edge.
The Sea calms me.

Time to stop giving balloons away and making kids a walking advertisement.
So many balloons end up in the Sea.

Clouds hang over the River Tees.

When I got back to the Car Park, the birds faced the breeze off the Sea in a regular pattern.

Sea Glass from Seaton Carew; there was lots of shingle on the beach tonight.

SEATON SANDS, HARTLEPOOL 20-10-16.

Beach had been scraped by the beat cleaning machine.
It left the beach stripped.

Clouds coming in from the West and Waves from the East.

More about this here...History | NYK Line

Time to head back.

more trapogge balls.

More bits of pottery.
The tide was inbound and the tide was fading.

MIDDLETON BEACH, HARTLEPOOL 19-10-16.

Middleton Beach looking towards Seaton Carew across Hartlepool Bay.
Around 95% of this beach is tidal, so if you time your visit badly then you will just be stood a very small bit of sand surrounded by sea worn house bricks mixed in with whatever rubbish had washed in on the tide. The rest of the Beach will be spotless thanks to it's tidal status.
To the outsider this may not seem much of a beach, this was THE beach for Dad and I.
Lots of memories.
I served my apprenticeship in a Factory on the bank top over looking the Beach.

Nice bottle top.

A mixture of Sea pottery, lots of tile on this beach from old bathroom suites dumped onto the beach from the bank top over the years.
The piece with PHON written on it looks interesting. I wonder what it was off? It was slightly curved.
The little circle at the top has Disney written at the bottom.
I think it is a plate or saucer off a toy set.

Bundles of Glass, three nice bottle neck tops and some more pieces for my Sea Mirror collection... remember  ? bathrooms!

I had segregated the finds to show what was what from each Beach visit. The #2minutebeachclean is a combination of both visits.

BE HAPPY

SEATON SANDS HARTLEPOOL 19-10-16

I have been taking Wednesdays off lately, today was no different.
I was tempted to give Hawthorn Hive another visit to see what it was like with a lower tide and dry weather!
Instead I opted for  Seaton Carew and Middleton.
I haven't been able to get on the Beach much in the last week when it was a low tide.
So I was hopeful of some nice finds after the breathtaking Blue, Green, Titanium and White rough Seas of late.
It was a mid morning visit to what is my local beach.
The breeze was fresh but there was heat in the October Sun.
The Beach glowing.

Looking back towards Seaton Village from the North Gare.
Not as many finds here as I had hoped.

Some glass but nothing out of the ordinary... just broken bottles.

Only a few bits of broken pot too.
There was a piece of a fossil; the dark piece at the top of the picture.

SEATON CAREW 17-10-16.

THE LIGHT WAS ALREADY  FADING WHEN I HIT THE BEACH.

IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE AND THE ROLL OF A WAVES THE LIGHT HD ALL BUT GONE....

3 DAYS WORTH OF FINDS,
WHAT WITH HIGH TIDES AND THE DARK...
IT WAS ALL THAT I COULD FIND.
