THE CURSE OF THE DISPOSED DISPOSABLE LIGHTER.

Over the last two days I have collected 22 disposable lighters during my beach walks around Hartlepool.
The picture above shows 11 from today around Seaton Carew.
The high number is partly due to the sea conditions of late and fully due to people just throwing them into the streets and  sea.
I wonder how many are floating around the world today?
One of the best known makes is BIC. I visited their website here

I clicked to watch the video option and the numbers are frightening.. they alone make 6 million a day.
Many other companies make them too, so what is the Grand total ?
So how may are floating around the World's Oceans?
Many I have found still have the pressured liquid gas in them.
The worrying part of it all as well as the plastic waste how much Butane is contained within the ones at sea or scattered on beaches around the world?
The link below gives some more figures and shows that Albatross have fed their chicks lighters!

I know that I have asked more questions than I have answered and lighters are just a part of the Ocean's problems.
I do what I can with a #2minutebeachclean.
So maybe we should replace the word Disposable with a word that highlights the problem all of the world's disposable items; items of many kinds and made by many companies.

BEACH BUOY.

SEATON CAREW AND BLUE LAGOON.... 31-10-15.

HALLOWEEN IS HERE A SPECIAL DAY FOR SOME.

There has been lots of seaweed and debris scattered lately due to  the sea conditions. The view above is looking North towards Seaton Carew.

And the view South.

I am  a slow beachcomber, looking everywhere, these two blasted past me. The Gent in front was collecting rubbish or finds as he went.

A different type of Beachcomber takes a break.

Two birds take a break on the Serpent.

Across the Tees to South Gare.

Ethan was here.

So was T M, unless Ethan had Trade Marked his Name.

I carried on without doing a Risk Assessment!
The Blue Lagoon or as it is Known North Gare Beach , has scattered Gravel today.

He found this !

Lots of timber.

Looking North; it had been a warm day anyway, but the sun came out.

Part of an old lifebuoy ring, one side looked like it said
EPOOL... HARTLEPOOL?

The other side said SEA ?

Cars don't normally come on the beach !
They may have well just drove to the chip shop.!
