SEATON SANDS, HARTLEPOOL. 26, AUG 2023.

Beach Buoy woke at 1-21 a.m.
He made a cup of tea.
He sat.
The first Gulls cried at 4 a.m. precisely.
It was still dark.
Beach Buoy put the kettle on. He made another cup of tea.
He started a Seaton Snooks Tearoom Out and About Card.

He, Another Dog and Borrowed Dog reached the beach car park at 5-36 a.m.
Street lights had been switching off as they headed for the beach.
The car park was silent.
There was a slight breeze from the west.
Low cloud lined the horizon.

Beach Buoy the Dogs descended the beach access ramp.
Two pairs of underpants and two towels were scattered around the bottom of the ramp.

It was mild.
The tide was well out.
Beach Buoy wore an Orange Hoodie.
His old coat was left in the van.
Beach Buoy could see a group of three or four people down near the grey rocks.

A man with a strange running style and an orange top ran down the access ramp.
He ran like he was off to give someone a message rather than just jogging.

As often happens, the low cloud claimed the sunrise.
Those that were up at they grey rocks, two couples with their dogs returned to the car park.

Three Oyster Catchers flew by in the formation of wall-mounted pottery ducks.

Beach Buoy was tempted up to the strand-line by strips of sloping shingle.
Meanwhile the Orange Runner was doing very random stops and starts.

The Sun lingered behind the low cloud.

Finally, The Sun appeared.
Mari, the big friendly poodle came along with her sidekick, Wallace.
Mari was giving a good shoulder scratch/ rub. She repaid Beach Buoy with a friendly lick on the side of his face.

The 7 a m. Club walked southwards along the water's edge.
Mari and Wallace ran to join them, Mari led the way.
As the Sun shone, Beach Buoy walked the strand-line, whilst his sunshine shadow chose the dune edge route.

The Sandy Slope that leads to Stubborn Dog Stack.

"Morning Mate."
It was 6-23 a.m.
Beach Buoy added some stones.
He patted
THE
stone.
Beach Buoy drank a wobbly driftwood plank coffee.
The 7 a.m. club returned North on the beach below.

A distant,
"Morning Paul!"
crossed from sea to stack.
A "Morning!" rebounded back.

Time to move on.
"See you mate."
Beach Buoy and the dogs headed south.
The 7 a.m. club were heading south for the second time today.
They had reinforcements.
Mari the poodle took the opportunity to return to Beach Buoy for a second shoulder rub of the day.

The dune at the south end of the beach looked splendid.
A lady sat on one of the highest dune heights.
She had had taken her hat off.
She cupped her hands as she faced the Sun.
She rubbed her face as though washing with warm water.
She replaced her hat, then was gone.

Dune edge Tank Traps.

Up on the North Gare Pier, a hopeful fisherman fished.

Clouds and dune edges reminded Beach Buoy of continental drift.
A jigsaw breaking up, pieces losing one another.
Still a good fit but maybe too far apart.

Beach Buoy finished the coffee.
He turned to head back.
It was 6-58 a.m.
The beach to the north looked deserted.

Beach Buoy and the dogs walked the water's edge.
Beach Buoy paused and faced the morning Sun.
He too "washed" his face in sunlight with cupped hands.

They drifted from the water's edge, the more they returned to the north.
Around half a dozen people were on the beach ahead.
Team Muzzled Dog travelled southwards at a distance.
A couple with a dog called
"Bruno, Bruno, Bruno!"
walked by the water's edge.
The Beachcombing Border Collie couple walked the strand-line, chatting and stopping as they walked.

Team Mick Aston Jumper stood chatting to a lady, a beach regular with her two dogs.

Comings and goings.

Beach Buoy and the dogs were going for now.

He gave the dogs a drink at the van before lighting the kettle for a drink of his own.
He made and half drank a coffee before nodding off as he rested on an arm.

A loud noise woke him
It was the man collecting the Sea Tax from the parking machine.
Coins cascading into a yin or bucket had woken him.

He sat.
The side door was part open.
Chocolate Pudding's mam was passing with her new pup, Purdy.
"Morning."
"Morning Paul."
Beach Buoy slid the van door open.
Purdy excitedly jumped in.
The dogs sniffed the owners chatted.
"Do you still do your blog?"
"Yes."
Beach Buoy went onto explain the blog and people's name.
He informed her that her old friend Rosebud was Chocolate Pudding in the Blog.
(with custard.) if wearing the RNLI yellow raincoat.
He wrote down the blog address.
They said goodbye.

8-25 a.m.
Excited children ran down the access ramp with buckets and spades in hand.

A tall man passed with one Yorkshire Terrier.
He was one of some of the beach regulars that don't normally feature on the blog.
He did today.
He always walked with two dogs, today it was one.
The beach, a place were the passing of time is shown by the dogs who no longer walk it's sand.

We all miss them so much.
Our companions.

Little friends with hearts of gold.

They walk with us in spirit if not in reality.

"Just a Dog?"
No chance!

SEATON SANDS HARTLEPOOL, 23, AUG. 2023.

Beach Buoy, Borrowed Dog and Another Dog reached the bottom of the beach access ramp as the Village Church Bells rang for
6-45 p.m.
It had been a hot day.
It could rain.

Two horses and riders had just left the beach behind.

It was a muggy end to the day.
The beach looked pale, the sky grey.

People and dogs were scattered around the beach like random posts of a long broken fence.
The tide was more in than it was out, but there was still plenty of space for all.
There were no breaking waves.
The sea lapped the beach as though it were a lake.

A couple headed north.
They were ankle-deep in sea.
Hand in hand, pairs of shoes carried in their free hands.

A family of four also headed north.
Their happy Labrador followed, carrying the best beach stick ever.

A Large Committee of Terns held an extraordinary meeting overhead.

Another Dog almost disappeared down a dog-dug beach hole as she went to investigate.

Two ladies chatted as they headed north.

Up in a dip in the dunes youngsters had gathered.

"Evening Mate."
It was 7-15.
Beach Buoy added some stones.
He patted
THE
stone.
He sat on a wobbly driftwood plank.
He wrote wobbly words in a wobbly beach book.
Little Black Flies hung in the air like floating full stops waiting for a sentence to end.

Another Dog had dug a cool hole in the sand of her own
She laid in it
The two dogs seemed to be happy, glad to be out?
Perhaps contemplating a dog's life?

A couple with four dogs on the loose, threw one ball for the four dogs to chase on the beach below.
Beach Buoy watched as finally four dogs began chasing one ball northwards.
They were leaving.

"See you mate "
Beach Buoy and the Dogs returned to the beach.

A slow walk back.
Beach Buoy didn't notice the seal up ahead.
Once he did, he gave the creature some space.

The seal looked to be fine, just resting.

The man who walks for miles walked the water's edge and almost into the seal.
He seemed to have a real life shadow for company this evening?
"The Shadow " headed off alone, towards the car park.

A lady in a long dress, the colour of sand beachcombed her way south.

It was a pleasant visit.

SEATON SANDS HARTLEPOOL. 21, AUG, 2023.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog arrived at the beach car at 7-03 p m.

The Litter pick Lady waved as she crossed the car park on foot.

Beach Buoy waved as he parked up.

The tide was quite high.

They headed south.
Warm but blowy breeze blew from dunes to the west.
To the north, loud teenagers played in the sea.

A dragon cloud looked down as they walked their walk.

The Pug owners club left heading north.
The beach to the south looked empty.

Lovely clouds drifted around like nature's hot air balloons.
A Lone White Yacht and a Lone White Gannett shared the bay.
Terns twisted.
Pebbles with legs ran to and from the water's edge.
The evening Sun broke through.
They were joined by their sunshine shadows.

Beach Buoy paused and held his arms wide open.
There was no one around to see him.
It felt like the right thing to do.
His sunshine shadow copied.
A fisherman stood almost directly in front of Stubborn Dog Stack.
Beach Buoy had to duck under the fisherman's angled rod.
" It's not bad luck to go under a fishing rod is it ?"
" No, you're fine."

"Evening Mate."
It was 7-37.
Beach Buoy adds some stones.
He patted
THE
stone.

Wobbly driftwood plank coffee view.
Small white birds scattered themselves like confetti being thrown out to sea.

The evening Sun was like a gilded Moon.
It was as strange as it was glorious.

💙
Beach Buoy had tears.

"See you Mate."

They headed back to the beach via the dunes and sandy slope.
A Seal popped up directly in front of the fisherman.
It was most perhaps the last thing he wanted to see?

A slow walk back.

A couple paused to hug.
They did so to the north before going to sit hand in hand on the dune edge.

A man and woman walked southwards on the water's edge.
They were together but had a distance between them.
It look like workmates, out discussing a work issue.
Each agreeing politely with each other but both possibly thinking just shut up and kiss me.
Neither having the courage to do so.
Yet.

BEACH BUOY

SEATON SANDS, HARTLEPOOL. 20, AUG, 2023.

Beach Buoy and Another Dog reached the beach car park at 5-37 a.m.
People waited for the sunrise.

A sunrise swimmer prepares.

Others Sunrise swimmers to the North.

Sun up at 5-47.
Sunrise always so special.
Feels good for the soul.

Beach Buoy realised that he had left he wobbly coffee back in the van.
He returned up the beach access ramp as an excited Hugo and Lola bounded down the bench.
Team Distant Wave were heading for the ramp.
They hadn't forgotten their coffee. That was safe in a tidy rucksack.

Beach Buoy grabbed the coffee from the van.
It was a warm morning.
Off came the Orange coat.
😱

Best sit and think of the day award winner.

Glowing.
Beach Buoy and Another Dog returned to the beach.
They headed south.
Team Distant Wave were way ahead by now.
There was a nice breeze from the west.

Swim they say.
Will this do?
The tide was well in.
The bay was full of rippled sea.

The 7 a m. club caught up a dawdling Beach Buoy and Another Dog.
Mari, came for a neck scratch.
"I'm going to  the end Paul.
Busy day.
This retirement lark."
In next to no time the 7 a m. club were returning north.
Beach Buoy and Another Dog headed to Stubborn Dog Stack.

"Morning Mate."
Beach Buoy added some stones.
He patted
THE
stone.
It was 6-24 a.m.

Wobbly coffee on a wobbly driftwood plank.

A distant bark crossed the dunes from Camp Distant Wave.
It sounded like Hugo?

Beach Buoy watched as creaking Terns dropped into the sea.
Beach Buoy pulled up the hood of his blue hoodie.
Seabirds flew here there and everywhere.

"See you mate "

Back down The Sandy Slope
"Come on,  get a move on."

A slow walk back.
The tide had not long peaked, a blank canvas on which to walk.

A driftwood mermaid lay on the water's edge.

A man with a beard and two huskies headed south.
"Morning."
"Morning Mate."

Beach Buoy and Another Dog took aim at the access ramp.
It was 7-02.

Team Muzzled Dog were heading for the beach as they were leaving.
"Morning."
"Hiya."
Beach Buoy attempted to say hello to Muzzled Dog.
"He's off to chase rabbits." came an explanation.

At the van Mr.Gunn / Nunn arrived.
They had a lovely chat.

Rita the Meter Maid did her usual route.

Another Coffee with Another Dog.
It was a milky coffee.

The Beachcombing Border Collie Couple headed down the access ramp.

The Little People arrived.
